The Best Laid Plans......
Well, I had all these wonderful plans to update my blog everyday
and fill you in on what's going on....it just didn't work!! We have been busier
than ever here. Seems like there are so many needy people on this trip--my heart breaks for all of them.
Of course, as with any group, some are just annoying! For example,
today I had a man ask me if there was a Korean word "berra". I didn't know but I would find out. Then I asked him why? Well, he knew the Korean word "yogi" means "here" so he wondered what the korean words yogi berra would mean. All I could think was "WHO CARES?" Then he asked me to be sure to find out for him. So....if somebody Korean says "yogi berra" to you, roughly translated it means "here, cut it."
Today I helped my roommate translate a letter from a birthmom to her daughter. It was so gut wrenching--the letter was not very emotional--I kept imaging one of my children getting a letter that was so formal and stiff. We tried to soften it a little while still keeping the integrity of the letter. I got the feeling that she was saying, "What do you want me to say to you? You were a mistake." I had tears streaming down my face as I thought of the birthmom trying to defend herself to her daughter, when that's not what the daughter wanted or needed. She just needed to hear her say that she loved her and had never forgotten her.
...Hello again. I just got back from a much needed break! Three of us took in the show "Nanta" tonight. What fun! I don't think I've laughed that hard in just ages. It's a non-verbal performance that has alot of incredible rythymic moves and sounds. It's set in a kitchen so a lot of the drumming is with knives on cutting boards, of course a lot of food is flying too! I wish my family could have seen it. I guess it was a Broadway Show in 2003.
Well, time to get some rest. Somehow this trip seems busier than last year--maybe I am just that much older!
